Today seemed like a fairly unproductive day on the training front. I had agreed to meet Dozer at Coalville for 6.3o this morning. However late last night he backed out because of his knee. My dilemma came at 6.00 this morning, realising dozer still had my Coalville keys having got up and got ready for training i now was in the position of not being able to get in to the studio. Feeling knackered i toyed with the idea of going back to bed for an hour unsure whether Matt would turn up. As it happened he was planning to however it was already 6.25 by this point. By the time i had got to Coalville, waited for Matt and warmed up it was 6.45.
By this point i was feeling dejected and not really in the mood for training. Despite being short of time we worked on a few kicking drills which Matt intends to teach this week.
countering a side kick with a hook kick to the body. This involves throwing a hooking kick before the opponent can fully extend his leg and using your hook to parry the attack and score a clean hit on the opponents chest by changing your kick to a roundhouse. Tricky but nifty. Might be worth a shot in the club sparring sessions.
The next one i have stolen straight from Matts blog as i couldn't quite remember how it went
'fake a stamping back fist, then as your opponent leans back with a side kick, project a axe over the top it will hit every time as there off balance.'
Finally to finish of i asked Matt to show me how he can project a hook/axe kick from 4 meters away from his opponent. In typical Matt style he was able to demo it almost straight away and gave a cracking explanation of how to do it.
I have many intentions when it comes to practicing technique but this is definitely one i'm going to practice!
Lunch time was spent on the phone trying to sort out my bank accounts. I complete waste of my time and hence no gym sess today. Grr bloody call centres and crap banks!
Finally, rather than training this evening i spent 3 hours at a workshop about gaining funding for your club. Overall useful-ish but definitely the 80 / 20 rule applied with it. 80% of the information came in the last 20% of the workshop. It seems there are plenty of schemes out there its just having the time and patience to fill out the bloody paper work.
